Super League update

As part of the Greek Super League market value update, 104 professionals received an adjustment. Among other things, former Frankfurt player Luka Jović has already recorded his second plus since moving to AEK Athens, while three former Bundesliga professionals have recorded a loss. In addition, things are moving up for the brother of a national player.
Jović has 13 goals after 21 games, and only Piraeus attacker Ayoub El Kaabi is ahead of him in the Super League top scorers list. The ex-SGE striker is one of the main reasons why AEK is dueling with record champions Olympiakos Piraeus in the title race. After his free transfer from AC Milan to Greece, his market value climbed from 4.5 million to 6 million euros in December. Now comes the second increase in a row to 7 million euros. The last time his market value increased twice in a row at a club was in 2019 in the service of the SGE. “Luka Jović is experiencing a renaissance at AEK after he hasn’t been as accurate since 2018/19. His performances and especially his integration into the team are incredible. He is an important factor in ensuring that AEK is in the tight race for the championship this season,” explains Nikos Sofis, Area Manager Greece at Transfermarkt.
Only Piraeus right winger André Luiz has recorded a greater increase than Jović. The 24-year-old will go from €4m to €6m after joining Olympiakos from Rio Ave for €6.75m in the winter. He managed one assist in five Super League games. “We increased André Luiz’s value to reflect the transfer fee paid for the player. He is also only 24 years old and has signed a four-year contract with Olympiakos. The high transfer fee shows how much the club believes in him, we have taken this trust into account in his value,” says Sofis. Panathinaikos Athens’ winter signing Adriano Jagusic, who has also been linked to Werder Bremen, will also receive a million plus. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder will go from €4 million to €5 million after his €5.2 million transfer. His teammates Santino Andino (from 5 million to 6 million) and Andreas Tetteh (from 2 million to 3 million) as well as Jović’s striker colleague Barnabás Varga (from 3 million to 4 million) also recorded an increase of 1 million euros.
In the Super League there are three devaluations in the millions. These affect Piraeus attacker Clayton (from 8 million to 7 million), ex-Man United professional Facundo Pellistri (from 7 million to 6 million) and PAOK midfielder Mady Camara (from 7 million to 6 million). In addition to Jović, three other former Bundesliga players will receive a devaluation. Former Munich player Renato Sanches, who works for Panathinaikos Athens, falls from 2.5 million to 2 million euros, AEK’s Marko Grujić goes from 3 million to 2.5 million euros and veteran Steven Zuber is valued at 600,000 instead of 800,000 euros. The most valuable professional in the league remains Piraeus talent Christos Mouzakitis with a market value of 25 million euros.
There are two German legionnaires in the Super League – both will receive an increase of 100,000 euros. For Makana Baku from Atromitos Athens, the twin brother of national player Ridle Baku, the prize is 700,000 euros. Former Leverkusen youth player Joel Abu Hanna from APO Levadiakos increases his market value to 350,000 euros.
With an increase of 2.3 million euros, Jović’s club AEK recorded the biggest increase and remains the fourth most valuable team in the league with 73.9 million euros. Leader Olympiakos increases marginally by 900,000 euros to 137.7 million euros.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent.
