Market values Belgium: Gift Orban from KAA Gent the most valuable

Update JPL

In an exciting season finale last weekend, Royal Antwerp secured the championship title in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League for the first time in 66 years after winning the cup. The successes are now reflected in the market value update – thanks to an increase of 16.1 million euros, the champions cracked the 100 million mark in terms of squad value for the first time (107.5 million).

Antwerp’s “Talent of the Season” Vermeeren doubles its market value

Arthur Vermeeren, who is only 18, is responsible for this: the midfielder, voted talent of the season by his professional colleagues, doubles his market value to 17 million euros. “Vermeeren has become an indispensable part of Antwerp’s champion team over the past few months and has consistently impressed with his rip-off style of play and outstanding anticipation and understanding of the game,” explains Bart Tamsyn, Area Manager at Transfermarkt.be.

“The club and the player himself would like to work together beyond the summer, but it is quite conceivable that a financially strong club will offer a sum that Antwerp cannot refuse. However, this should then certainly be significantly higher than the new market value.” Interest in Vermeeren is said to include FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and the two clubs from Manchester.

In addition to Vermeeren, other Antwerp professionals have also been in the spotlight in recent months: Frankfurt newcomer Willian Pacho (21), for example, increases his market value from 9 million to 11 million euros, while U21 international Mandela Keita (21) from 3.5 million to 7 million euros. Goalkeeper Jean Butez (27), who conceded just 42 goals and kept 27 clean sheets in 52 competitive games, has increased from 6 million to 8 million euros.

Although KRC Genk and Royale Union Saint Gilloise only just missed out on the championship, market value winners can of course still be found in the ranks of the runners-up and third-placed. At Genk, for example, top assist providers Mike Trésor (24; +2 to 15 million), Joseph Paintsil (25; +3 to 12 million) or top talent Bilal El Khannouss (19; +2 to 13 million) ) are up, while at Saint Gilloise Victor Boniface (22; +6 to 12m) and Brighton loanee Simon Adingra (21; +4 to 10m) post the biggest gains.

Club Brugge loses 20 million in squad value: Yaremchuk devalued again

In the other direction it goes again with the dethroned and thus former series champions FC Bruges. In the playoffs, quickly out of the championship race, the squad value drops significantly – from previously 157.6 million to 137.3 million euros. Despite isolated market value winners such as Bjorn Meijer (20; +1 to 10 million) or Jorne Spileers (18; +1.7 to 2.5 million), the devaluations at Brugge predominate after a sobering season.

Hopefuls like Andreas Skov Olsen (23), who fell by 3 million to 14 million, or Abakar Sylla (20), who lost one million to 8 million euros, mostly showed inconsistent performances. Meanwhile, record signing Roman Yaremchuk has once again lost a lot of status: the market value of the 27-year-old has dropped from EUR 9 million to EUR 5 million. In the case of top performers such as Simon Mignolet (-1.8 to 3.2 million) or Hans Vanaken (-2 to 10 million), the advancing age of 35 or 30 years must also be taken into account.

Gift Orban increases market value from 1 million to 20 million euros in 4 months

Meanwhile, the new JPL MVP can be found at KAA Gent: Gift Orban. A league four-goal against Zulte Waregem in mid-March, the fastest hat-trick in European competition just days later, a spectacular crossbar shot against Standard Liège from the halfway line – and a total of 20 goals in 22 competitive games since arriving in Belgium last Deadline Day. All of these are among the reasons.

“In his few months, Orban has repeatedly made a name for himself beyond the country’s borders. The 20-year-old Nigerian should therefore be hard to keep in the summer and should bring in a multiple of the 3.3 million that Gent paid for him,” says area manager Tamsyn about the new league leader, who is now at 20 million euros ( +11 million) is estimated – in January it was just one million euros.

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
