News anchor Marjukka Havumäki, who retired in October, arrived Rose– with his daughter to watch live Dancing with the stars broadcast on Sunday evening.
The Halloween-themed broadcast happened to coincide with a rather busy time. Recently, everyday life has largely determined Rosa’s wedding to be celebrated next weekend.
– The endgame is underway. Next Saturday we will celebrate. A little less than a week, Rosa laughs.
The TTK evening serves as a good way for mother and daughter to get their thoughts elsewhere for a while.
– There are still many things that need to be adjusted, Marjukka says about the wedding preparations.
For example, there is more time in Marjuka’s life for wedding preparations now than a little while ago. In October, Marjukka retired from her long-term position as Yle’s news anchor. The last news he read was on October 12.
– I’m slowly starting to realize what has happened, Havumäki sums up his mood after a few weeks.
Marjuka’s own spouse has been retired for a couple of years. Watching from the sidelines, Marjukka has realized that retirement is not a scary thing, but life is filled with new things.
The working community is not completely left behind either. Marjuka has good friends in the editorial department, for example a group of women who meet regularly and irregularly. So he stays well on the map of what is happening in the delivery and what is up with the people.
He still follows the news. Although not quite as intensely as before.
– Sometimes I can even change the channel, and I don’t have to think that this matter will be dealt with tomorrow at work. I can just look Do you want to be a millionaire program or something else that is not so serious, Havumäki states.
Time for family
With the new pension age, there will be more time for the family as well. After the last broadcast, it was important for Marjuka to go out to eat with the family.
– They are my most important asset. I have been away from home many nights. Now it’s nice to be together, says Marjukka.
In her news work, Marjukka always knew her shifts for three weeks at a time. Now he has made reservations even until next summer.
– However, we like to travel and sometimes do things ex tempore. When you’re at work, it’s not possible, Marjukka sums up.
Rosa says that they have planned a trip to Nice with mother.
– It’s nice that now you don’t have to separately check whether the mother is at work. Knowing that both parents are free if you want to go out with groups or go out with your parents somewhere, says Rosa.

Emotions on the surface
When Marjukka went to the office on her last day of work, she felt like she was going to do a long special broadcast like a royal or presidential funeral.
– Yes, that day was somehow different, Marjukka states.
Marjukka admits that she doesn’t start crying easily. Still, he wondered what if that happens during the last broadcast.
– I thought we’d go with it then. I believe that the viewers would have been on my side, Marjukka states.
Emotions were also on the surface at the family’s cabin, where Rosa’s daughter watched the last broadcast with her spouse.
– Yes, a tear came to my eye too. For so many years have seen mother on the screen and knew that she is here. But I’ve been thinking the whole time that the next stage of life and new wonderful things are starting now.
As for the viewers, Marjukka is grateful for the messages and contacts she received after the broadcast.
– It has been really touching. When it is said that people follow the news more and more online, yes, there are still quite a few people for whom the evening newscast has been important.
– Even in the city, the construction workers might shout in passing that they have a relaxing retirement and I wave back. Really lovely reactions from people.
