Mario Basler appalled by Hertha BSC

Mario Basler is very concerned about developments at his former club Hertha BSC. The former FC Bayern professional, on the other hand, believes his home club 1. FC Kaiserslautern can make it big.

“I think a lot of things didn’t go well in Berlin. A lot was promised and little kept,” said Basler in an interview “Sport1” with regard to the old lady, who, despite great ambitions, is once again in the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga this season.

“For me, as a former Hertha player, it’s bad to see what’s happening. The end is not yet in sight. Now it’s off to Freiburg and it won’t be easy to win there either. It will be a tough relegation battle for them in the next few weeks Hertha,” explained Basler.

Windhorst engagement at Hertha BSC “opaque”

The 1996 European champion described investor Lars Windhorst’s commitment to Hertha BSC as “opaque”.

Basler explained: “There are reasons why Windhorst got involved with 375 million euros. He will have done it in such a way that something jumps out for him that is reinvested. Or he thought so. But he is already with some companies have gone bankrupt.”

He hopes “that Hertha will get away with a black eye,” said the 53-year-old TV expert and coach of the Türkgücü Osnabrück district league.

1. FC Kaiserslautern plays “a good round” in the 3rd division

Basler sees the situation at his home club 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 3rd division as positive.

“They’re playing a good round and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the boys get promoted. A year ago they were terrible and now they’re doing a lot better,” praised the two-time German champions and DFB Cup winners. “I counted the Antwerp coach back then, I was wrong. He’s been doing a lot right for a few months. The squad is working.”
