Marin Marin confirms retirement in summer – Technical Director at Red Star

Currently playing for Ferencváros

Marko Marin will end his active career at Ferencváros Budapest after the end of the season. The 33-year-old offensive player initially confirmed that “foosball” as does Transfermarkt that he will take up the post of technical director at his former club Red Star Belgrade for the 2022/23 season. There, the ex-DFB kicker should be involved in scouting and transfers and also act as a link to the next generation. An official confirmation from the clubs is still a long way off.

Marin joined Budapest on a free transfer in September 2021 and made 14 appearances (one goal, one assist) for Hungary. From August 2018 to January 2020, the Serbian record champions Red Star Belgrade made 58 appearances (eleven goals, 24 assists), and he also won the league title twice. Overall, the veteran was active at twelve professional stations in ten countries.

“It’s been at my club since I was little. My father was a huge Red Star Belgrade fan, so I took that with me. To play there in front of this audience in the Marakana (nickname of the stadium analogous to the Brazilian Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro; ed.) and to lead the team into the Champions League as captain and to win against Liverpool, who then went on to win the Champions League have become – that was a highlight,” said Marin in September 2021 in the TM interview.
