Marijn de Vries from Sleen joins the Supervisory Board of Topsport Noord. ‘I am proud of this ambassadorship’

Marijn de Vries from Sleen joins the supervisory board at Topsport Noord in Heerenveen.

,,We were looking for someone with northern roots, focused on Drenthe”, said director Evert Jorritsma in an explanation. “We were also looking for someone with a top sport profile. And what is important, someone with communication skills. Marijn fits that profile completely.”

Marijn de Vries (44) from Sleen is a journalist, moderator, sports columnist, cycling analyst and entrepreneur. Until 2015 she was a professional cyclist. After ending her cycling career, she was elected to the KNWU’s main board. She resigned from that position last year.

‘Nice contribution’

Topsport Noord is committed to good, professional guidance and development of talents and top athletes in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. De Vries was in the news last week when she came in NRC wrote a column about undesirable behavior of an employee of NOS Sport during the Tour de France in 2016. She complained about this, but according to her, nothing was done with that report.

De Vries: ,,With my experience as a top athlete, sports director and sports journalist, I enjoy being able to make a social contribution to a good top sports climate in the North. In Topsport Noord I found an organization that is close to me. My roots – both privately and in sport – lie in the northern provinces. I am proud of this ambassadorship.”
