Marianne Vos wins points classification Tour de France Femmes: ‘A beautiful week’

Marianne Vos could not help but be satisfied after the first edition of the Tour de France Femmes. The Brabant cyclist won two stages and also secured the green jersey as the winner of the points classification. “It was an incredibly beautiful week,” Vos told the NOS. “It’s only been eight days, but it’s been pretty tough and intense.”

The previous edition of the Tour de France for women was in 2009. Thanks in part to the lobby of Vos, who then finished third in the standings, the race returned to the calendar.

The Dutch cyclists won all four jerseys. Annemiek van Vleuten was awarded the yellow jersey, Vos the green one, Demi Vollering the polka dot jersey for best climber and Shirin van Anrooij the white jersey for best youngster. “It was super tough, but I am certainly satisfied,” Van Anrooij told the NOS. “I suffered a lot, but it has also been very cool.”
