Marianne Vos gets a World Cup table, but the municipality knows nothing

It was an old tradition in the former municipality of Aalburg. With every world title, Marianne Vos got her own World Cup bench. After seven benches in seven villages, they switched to World Cup tables in 2014. Due to the lack of new titles, however, it remained at one table, but there is now a second. A new World Cup table that had been in the attic of a school for years, waiting for better times. “The frame was already labeled as scrap iron,” says maker Henk van Noorloos.

Whether and how the new merged municipality of Altena will honor Marianne Vos for her new World Cup title, was not yet known on Monday when asked. “We’ll know more at the end of the week,” said a spokesperson.

Henk van Noorloos, teacher at the Willem van Oranje College in Aalburg, was already working on a new World Cup table. “We still have six new tables in the attic of the school, which had already been ordered by the municipality of Aalburg at the time. It was a tradition that benches and then also a table were placed in the villages after Vos won a World Cup title.”

“After the 2014 Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, the municipality of Aalburg has purchased seven tables,” Van Noorloos continues. “In 2014, one was unveiled in Genderen and unfortunately it was later destroyed by fireworks. After the first table in 2014, the World Cup titles did not come and the stock of World Cup tables ended up here in the attic. They seemed to have been forgotten, well not. .”

“Five tables are stored in separate parts against the wall, but the sixth is ready for use except for the table top. And we are going to place that too,” says Van Noorloos. “The question is, however, where can we and may we place the table in Altena. Let us know, because this table will be built.”
