Marianne Vos is not participating in the cyclocross world championship, next Saturday in Liévin, France. The cyclist from Babyloniënbroek sustained a calf injury last Saturday. That happened during a fall during the world beak match in Maasmechelen, Belgium.
Aniek van Alphen from Bladel will replace her and join the selection in Lievin. Although Vos has made progress, the recovery is not yet sufficient, reports the Royal Dutch Cycling Union.
Vos could mainly suffer from running, which may be needed with a cyclo -cross. In order not to take risks, it has now been decided that Vos will let this World Cup shoot. Earlier this year she announced that she is taking cyclocross seriously, but also that her focus is mainly on the road. And that as a 37-year-old she still wants to count.

“Of course we think this is incredibly unfortunate,” responds national coach Gerben de Knegt from Goirle. “As an eight -time world champion, we would have liked to see Marianne a shot at a new title, although we knew it would be difficult after her fall. We wish Marianne a speedy recovery”
