Marcus Mumford Announces Solo Debut Album

Rumors that Marcus Mumford, singer of British folk and rock band Mumford & Sons, is releasing a solo album have been around for some time. He confirmed this in a newsletter: He had made it his goal to “write a few songs and just follow where they lead”.

In an Instagram post, Mumford revealed the backstory to the as yet untitled solo record. The album was made during the Corona pandemic: “In January 2021, when I faced the demons with whom I danced in isolation for a long time, I wrote a song called ‘Cannibal’. I took him to my friend Blake Mills and we started the process of making this album, which is very close to my heart,” he wrote. Slated for release on September 16, the work features contributions from Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo and Monica Martin.

Marcus Mumford goes on to explain that the album is very personal: “When I showed the first two songs to the guys in the band, we all agreed that it’s probably a story for me to tell alone”. So far, apart from the release date for the album (September 16), no track list or dates for the release of the first singles have been announced.
