Marco Richter (24) has testicular cancer

Marco Richter will no longer take part in training at Hertha BSC for the time being. The 24-year-old was diagnosed with a tumor in his testicles.

Concern for Hertha striker Marco Richter. As the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday, a tumor in the testicles was diagnosed in player number 23 during a urological examination. This must be surgically removed, but a final diagnosis is still pending.

“As soon as there are further findings on the healing process, we will inform you. Until then, we ask that you refrain from asking questions out of respect for Marco Richter’s privacy. We wish our number 23 a good and speedy recovery!”, the club said in its statement Twitter.

Bobic: “Hope he comes back as soon as possible”

“Marco gets every conceivable support from us in this situation. We hope that he will return to our circle healthy as soon as possible,” sports director Fredi Bobic is quoted as saying in the statement.

Richter has been playing for Hertha in Berlin since last summer. At the beginning of August 2021, the three-time national player switched from FC Augsburg to the Spree for seven million euros.

Richter is the second “Berliner” who was afflicted with the bad news of testicular cancer within a very short time. Union central defender Timo Baumgartl announced at the end of April that he had been diagnosed with a tumour.
