The Olympian tells Sportweek: “In December in Italy I understood that I had to make a choice. When I returned to Jacksonville I started working like I used to. I know I can still be competitive”
The week spent in Italy just before Christmas was decisive. Accompanied by his wife Nicole, in Desenzano and the surrounding area, he returned to his origins, rediscovered his dearest loved ones, was with his old friends, met many young people, told them about his career, the joy of triumph and the many difficult moments and also visited the pediatric departments of two hospitals. Then he flew back to Florida, to Jacksonville, his base for over two years. The next day he was at camp. And he trained. Like he hadn’t done for three months. He hugged his teammates and coach Rana Reider. And that belief that was maturing, after many thoughts, became reality. Marcell Jacobs continues, he doesn’t raise the white flag, he doesn’t give up. Italy will not lose its champion.
