The lesion did not show “sufficient signs of stabilization.” In Ktm there will be Pol Espargaro in place of Vinales

Two significant absences for the next Grands Prix: Marc Marquez and Maverick Viñales will remain in the pits due to injury. “After a check-up of the injury to his right scapula, Marquez underwent successful surgery at the Ruber Internacional hospital in Madrid.” Ducati communicated this, explaining that the decision represents a change of direction compared to the conservative therapy chosen initially.

The Spanish driver suffered the injury after falling on the first lap of the Indonesian GP, following a collision with Marco Bezzecchi. “The same medical team that had examined him seven days earlier found that the coracoid fracture and ligament damage did not show sufficient signs of stabilization after a week of immobilization,” explains the team. “Given the risk of residual instability, it was decided to proceed with surgical stabilization and repair of the acromioclavicular ligaments.” The surgery ended successfully and Márquez has already returned home, where he will continue his rehabilitation. In his place, at least in Australia, the tester Michele Pirro will race.

Viñales

Also absent is Maverick Viñales, still dealing with the after-effects of the shoulder injury he suffered in Germany. Having undergone surgery and then retired during the Indonesian GP, the KTM Tech3 rider will also remain out of action for the races in Australia and Malaysia. The team decided to grant him a further period of rest, once again entrusting the bike to Pol Espargaró, who had already replaced Viñales in the Czech Republic and Hungary.
