Marc-André ter Stegen has been injured again. There is therefore a big question mark behind his personal future.
On Monday the news made the rounds that Marc-André ter Stegen had been injured again. This time the German national goalkeeper is said to have been hit in the thigh; the results of detailed examinations are still pending. Even Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was unable to provide any more precise information at the beginning of the week.
The trainer also explained that he still had to talk to sports director Deco. When the injury became known, Spanish media reported that Ter Stegen would return to Barça immediately. Loan club Girona has the opportunity to send the goalkeeper back thanks to a corresponding clause in the contract.
According to information from the sports newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, there will still be no return before the summer. It is possible that the goalkeeper will complete part of his rehab at the training center of his parent club. However, nothing should change in the contract negotiated with Girona. This is particularly important for Barcelona because of the salary, which Girona partially covers.
Where exactly Ter Stegen will continue is still unclear for the time being – as is the exact downtime. However, it is clear for Lothar Matthäus. “If that is confirmed, it will be the end of March before he can play again. Then he will probably have to write off his participation in the World Cup,” said the record national player on Sky. “That would be a personal tragedy and I feel very sorry for him.”
