Marathon runners Khalid Choukoud and Bjorn Koreman at the start in Egmond

The field of participants for the men is also known for the Egmond Half Marathon. Khalid Choukoud and Björn Koreman are the eye-catchers who will compete against each other on Sunday 8 January. The Belgian athlete Koen Naert also appears at the start in Egmond.

With Choukoud, the organization has managed to bring in an Olympic athlete. The 36-year-old runner from The Hague was in great shape last year. In May he sharpened his personal best in the 10 kilometers to 28 minutes and 38 seconds. In October he extended his title at the Amsterdam Marathon in a personal best of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 34 seconds.

Koreman will also compete for the medals in Egmond. This year he achieved a handsome ninth place at the Rotterdam marathon with a personal best of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 32 seconds. Subsequently, the athlete from North Brabant suffered some injuries. The Egmond Half Marathon is the first race since he recovered.

From Belgium, Choukoud and Koreman face opposition from Koen Naert. The 33-year-old athlete has already achieved strong performances in the past. In 2018 he took the European marathon title in 2:09.51. Stan Niesten, Ronald Schroër, Gianluca Assorgia and Lucas Nieuweboer are also outsiders for the medal of honor.
