Many schools are still looking for teachers, hundreds of vacancies
At the end of July, there were still 327 vacancies for teachers in our province. This is a large increase compared to the same period last year. Then there were ‘only’ 255. There are shortages, especially in secondary education. And there may be many more now, VDAB says, because not all vacancies are registered with them.
There are currently enough teachers at Scholengroep Sint-Rembert
At Scholengroep Sint-Rembert in Torhout, they have done everything they can to find enough teachers for a smooth start on September 1. That has also been almost completely successful. But then no one can fall out.
Ann Stael, director: “The assignments for the entire school year are being filled in well. We also started very early this school year. But for long-term replacements, if someone were to fall out for an operation, a maternity leave, then we still keep our hearts We’re kind of fishing in a pond that’s almost empty, so we kind of eat the same people off each other.”
For replacements of two weeks, no effort is even made to find teachers here, then the puzzle is put together with other staff. The teachers of Sint-Rembert certainly do not lack the desire to fly in.
