Two women who are from Uithoorn shared their concerns. “I have the most beautiful granddaughter and grandson in the world. They won’t be able to cycle here. I’m fighting for their safety,” said one of them.
She was especially afraid that only men would come to live in the center. “On a whole, I think that is very unsafe.” The municipality of Uithoorn states on its website that the group of residents will consist of ‘a mix of adults, couples and families’. Unaccompanied minors are not allowed there.
‘It should also be possible’
The woman believed that asylum seekers should be helped. “But it should also be possible,” she said. The other agreed, but believed that the residents of Uithoorn should not be burdened with this. “We also have our own things. My daughter has been registered for a long time and does not get a home.”
After the demonstration ended and the speakers left, heavy fireworks were set off. A group of troublemakers walked in the direction of Wieger Bruinlaan and were chased by the police and riot police. It is not yet known whether any arrests have been made.
Local residents told NH that they found the nuisance very annoying. “We also have pets inside that are very anxious about this.”
