They were the better team in phases and had numerous chances – but the SGS Essen was empty -handed.
It was a bitter copy of the first leg: the SGS Essen kept well against Werder Bremen on Friday evening, but conceded the decisive goal in the middle of the second half. So the result was again 0: 1 (0: 0) from Essen’s perspective.
As with the narrow defeat in the first leg, the SGS got a better start. At the beginning they tried it primarily with long balls. With this, they forced the Bremen defensive into numerous duels, but they didn’t jump out countable.
The Werder people needed something to find into the game, but became more and more braver after a quarter of an hour. After a corner kick, Tuana Mahmoud from almost 20 meters tried, her shot was still blocked. Shortly thereafter, it was the strong Mahmoud that brought the defensive of the Essenians into trouble. Verena took her cross again, but the ball flew just over the goal.
Foul prevents Bremen guidance
After 19 minutes it was Larissa Mühlhaus who swept the ball into the net by free kick. But the Bremen women’s goal did not count. Saskia Matheis had pulled Lena Ostermeier on the jersey in the penalty area and then decided the referee on foul.
Natasha Kowalski had the first really good opportunity for the SGS in the 23rd minute. With her attempt from around twelve meters, she forced goalkeeper Livia Peng to a strong parade. It went back and forth. For Bremen, the lead narrowly missed again after a nice cross from Mühlhaus, on the other hand, Ramona Maier failed from a short distance from the re -reacting Peng. So despite numerous good chances to take a break in the performance -based draw.
Open game with many opportunities
There was also fire in the second round. After 52 minutes, substitute Lilli Purtscheller appeared freely in front of Peng. But the keeper was not to be defeated to date, steering the shot with his thigh into the goal. Two minutes later, Jacqueline Meißner had the next big opportunity for the hosts, but her attempt was not placed enough.
With all the bad luck in the end, the Essen women were quite lucky at the back. After 55 minutes the ball fidgeted again in the SGS goal. This time, an off -the -sided position prevented the deficit of the Rhinelanders.
Mühlhaus shocked the SGS
The following also remained an open game that would not have deserved a winner. But as in the first half of the season, the Bremeners achieved a decisive moment: Mühlhaus scored 1-0 for Werder after 72 minutes. Kim-Lea Sindermann in the Essen goal was still on, but could no longer prevent the impact.
The hosts tried to counter immediately, but the accuracy on the offensive was simply missing in all efforts. Bremen’s final woman also caught Pengeinen cream day and recorded the narrow away win for her team.
After the break is before the break
Meanwhile, a play rhythm does not arise with the teams. After the league last paused due to international matches, the semi-final first legs in the Champions League now cause another interruption. For the SGS, it will not continue until April 26th – with an away game at RB Leipzig.
