Several emergency services rushed to a railway crossing on the Hapseweg in Beugen on Sunday evening. They responded to a report of a collision. Police and other emergency services arrived en masse.
It soon became clear that it was not a collision with a person or vehicle, but a collision between a train and a duck. The animal was hit near the railway crossing.
After the collision, the train came to a stop between Beugen and Boxmeer. “The driver felt a blow and saw blood on the window,” said a ProRail spokesperson. That is why the police received a report that a person had possibly been hit.
Emergency services then started searching along the track. “They found the duck there. The injuries matched what they saw on the train,” said a police spokesperson.
“Fortunately it remained the duck,” says the ProRail spokesperson. “The animal has been cleaned up and the trains between Boxmeer and Cuijk are running again.
