Betis Sevilla is currently twelfth in the Spanish first league. Nevertheless, coach Manuel Pellegrini is apparently a candidate for Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund is still looking for a suitable successor to discharge coach Nuri Şahin. On Saturday, U19 coach Mike Tullberg will sit on the bench, but sports managing director Lars Ricken is planning in the background on a long-term and possibly surprising personnel decision.
As “La Tercera” reports, Manuel Pellegrini should be a candidate for the successor of Şahin at BVB. The 71-year-old is currently a coach of Betis Sevilla and has been in office there since 2020. Pellegrini has also been on the sidelines at West Ham United (2018 to 2019) or Manchester City (2013 to 2016) and Real Madrid (2009 to 2010).
Pellegrini therefore has extensive international experience. His expertise could be helpful in the current situation for BVB. The Chilene still has a contract with Betis by 2026, which is why a transfer fee would be necessary to bring it to Dortmund.
As the TV broadcaster Sky reports, Urs Fischer should also play a larger role in the considerations of the Dortmund club tour. However, an official contact with the 58-year-old Swiss has not yet taken place (you can read more about fishermen here).
Finally, “Bild” and Sky had reported that Niko Kovač should be a favorite in Dortmund. However, he said on Wednesday evening as an expert at Canal+ with regard to Borussia Dortmund: “There is nothing to report. Nobody spoke to me, I spoke to anyone.”
However, the former Bundesliga coach was open to a return to the coaching business (you can read more about the statements here). So Kovač explained: “Basically I am a guy who needs and searches for challenges. I have not done anything for nine months now. But at some point the time will come when I do something again.”
