Because of Neuer: Nagelsmann avoids a precise answer

Manuel Neuer is currently being spared due to complaints. The national coach reacted cautiously to a question about the goalkeeper’s next appearance.
There is still a question mark behind DFB goalkeeper Manuel Neuer before the last test before the start of the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. National coach Julian Nagelsmann left it open whether Neuer will be between the posts again in the game against the USA in Chicago next Saturday (June 6th). In response to the corresponding question from ZDF presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein, he replied: “Yes, as I already said, we will decide that next week.” Nagelsmann had already emphasized this in the past few days and now repeated it again.
Neuer is still missing due to calf problems. In an interview with Müller-Hohenstein, Nagelsmann said: “The longer we give the hardened structure time, the better it is. We don’t need to take any risks.”

Initially the focus is on the game against Finland. The coaching team then wants to reassess the situation. Nagelsmann obviously didn’t want to start a goalkeeping debate. The focus is rather on getting Neuer fit in time for the start of the World Cup without unnecessary risk.
Substitute Oliver Baumann was in goal for the German team against Finland. Nagelsmann said: “It’s also about rewarding Oli Baumann. He played a very good World Cup qualifier for us because he contributed very well and embodies a great team spirit.”
