Manuel Neuer does not want to accept the two-game ban after his emergency stop in the DFB Cup. The FC Bayern captain is now entering into negotiations. But why?

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from FC Bayern has appealed against his ban for two cup games. The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Tuesday and set Thursday (December 12th) at 3 p.m. as the date for the oral hearing.

According to the DFB announcement, Neuer, who is currently suffering from a broken rib, will be connected via video. The meeting at the DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main will be chaired by Stephan Oberholz, chairman of the DFB sports court.

The 38-year-old was sent off by referee Harm Osmers in the 17th minute of Munich’s 1-0 defeat in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen after a violent check on Jeremie Frimpong. For Neuer it was the first dismissal in his professional career.

“According to consistent DFB case law, preventing an obvious goal-scoring opportunity through a non-serious foul without a subsequent goal success usually results in a ban of two games,” the DFB wrote in its reasons for the judgment.

This means that Neuer would be missing from FC Bayern in a possible Super Cup final next season as well as in the DFB Cup. But: The goalkeeper’s contract expires in the summer. There is currently speculation about his future. With his objection to the ban, Neuer may have revealed that he does not want to end his professional career after this season, at least not yet. Apparently he plans to continue his career at a club that competes in the DFB Cup. So it could indicate a contract extension.
