He wore the Freiburg jersey for nine years – now the chapter ends. Defender Manuel Gulde has decided to end his active career in summer.

Manuel Gulde from SC Freiburg will end his career as a football professional at the end of the current season. The 34-year-old announced this in a club’s own interview on Tuesday.

The decision was matured after the central defender was no longer used in the current season. “This year is pulling a little down again,” he said. The reason for the failure was persistent back problems, which put it out of action over long distances. This is also why he leaves sport with mixed feelings.

Football has become more a profession in recent years, the passion has gone away a little, said Gulde, who had contested the DFB Cup final with Freiburg in 2022. “After the long time it is enough for me. I am looking forward to a new phase of life.” Nevertheless, he looks back on his way with recognition. He was proud to have mastered difficult phases.

In his active time at SC Freiburg, to which he changed from Karlsruher SC in 2016, he played over 100 competitive games. One of the highlights: reaching the DFB Cup final in 2022. Gulde had played for SC Paderborn and TSG Hoffenheim before.
