After her victories in Hof, Dörtendorf and Schleiz, Alexandra Manly also won the final stage of the 34th Tour of Thuringia. The 26-year-old from the Bike-Exchange Jayco World Tour team won the race around Altenburg on Sunday (May 29) ahead of Marta Lach from Poland and Silvia Zanardi from Italy. Manly is the first Australian in the history of the Thuringia Tour to win the overall ranking.

Manly: “Great team effort”

“It’s unbelievable,” said the winner afterwards and immediately passed on the congratulations. “It was a great team effort. I’m very grateful for that.” MDR expert Petra Roßner also saw Manly’s success as a result of the team effort. “She always rode in a good position, had good intuition and in the end was the strongest team,” said the 1992 Olympic track cycling champion.

Bauernfeind finished fifth overall

Ricarda Bauerfeind

The best German on the 104.3-kilometer stage was once again Ricarda Bauernfeind in 13th place. The woman from Eichstätt finished fifth and was “definitely satisfied. It was a pretty hectic finale through the cobblestones in Altenburg. It feels great I think I was able to finish all the stages well up front,” said Bauernfeind, who was only beaten by Manly in the 4th stage around Schleiz.

National coach André Korff also paid tribute to his athlete. “We’ve seen that she can perform consistently over several days. It was a great tour, great sport at a demanding level.”
