Mané talks about initial difficulties at Bayern: “Not easy”

Klopp support

With four Bundesliga goals in the first eight games, top transfer Sadio Mané from FC Bayern Munich is now in line with the previous seasons in terms of results – the 30-year-old was only able to do so in the 16/17 and 17/18 seasons Senegalese scored fewer goals in the Premier League at this point, 18/19 and 20/21 there were also four, 19/20 and last season five each (to the performance data overview). Regardless of his quota, the newcomer, who costs 32 million euros and has always been in the starting line-up of FCB coach Julian Nagelsmann, apart from the home game against VfB Stuttgart, is often attested after the first few weeks as still lacking in the game of the record champions – in an interview with the platform UEFA.com Mané now spoke in detail about his acclimatization period with Munich and summarized his previous achievements.

The attacker was not at all surprised by the small initial difficulties, because it is not easy to gain a foothold after such a short time. “Moving from one club to another is not easy. I’ve spent eight very enjoyable years in England, six years in Liverpool, two before that in Southampton and now I’m in a new country. It’s not easy because everything changes so suddenly: people, training, everything,” Mané said.

After four games in a row without a goal during which Bayern could not clinch a win, Jürgen Klopp’s former protégé scored for the first time in the 4-0 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. When asked at the weekend whether Mané would also call up his qualities in Munich, the Reds coach stated: “He always does. Not every week, nobody does that. But in extremely high frequency. Sadio will call because he’s world class.” Klopp is also certain that FC Bayern have planned for initial difficulties on the offensive: “If you lose Robert Lewandowski, he just put one in regularly. This must not be forgotten. Once that’s gone, you have to get used to this situation again. And you don’t have to pretend that Bayern have played the stars from the sky every matchday for the past ten years.”

FC Bayern’s Sadio Mané: “It’s happening exactly as I imagined”

Mané himself, who posted a drop from EUR 70 million to EUR 60 million as part of the most recent market value update, is personally “very happy” with how the first few weeks after his move in the summer went, despite criticism: “I knew that and it was no surprise. It happens exactly as I imagined. The people at the club are great.”

Regarding the sporting integration of the record champions, who are in transition, the attacker said it was “so easy to play with these youngsters who are enormously talented and promising,” adding: “We have a very, very young squad. It’s the first time in my career that I’m part of such a young group. What really strikes me is that they are all hungry. Everyone wants to develop further and is also attentive. The training sessions are as intense as the games. It’s important because I think it makes a real difference.”

After the “positive signal” in the clear home win against Leverkusen, FC Bayern should now have reason to celebrate again during the week against Viktoria Pilsen in the Champions League before the top game against BVB in Dortmund on the 9th matchday.
