Mandatory purchase for Schalke’s Harit linked to stakes – transfer fee in the millions

On loan in Marseille

FC Schalke transferred Amine Harit (25) on loan to Olympique Marseille at the last minute on Deadline Day – according to the club, the deal contains “both a purchase option and a conditional purchase obligation”. The “picture“-Zeitung know: according to this, Schalke will receive a transfer fee of around 5 million euros for 15 games played.

During the transfer, both clubs are said to have agreed on a calculation key, according to which every stake is counted with a factor of one from the start and every game in which the Moroccan international is substituted counts with 0.5. To date, Harit has been in the starting eleven twice and came off the bench three times, which corresponds to 3.5 games. At this rate, the purchase obligation would take effect in January.

Schalke’s Schröder: “The deal was off an hour and a half before the end of the transfer”

From a financial point of view, S04 was dependent on another transfer from Harit, as the midfielder was promised a salary of EUR 5.5 million a year when he extended his contract from December 2019 to 2024 – at that time the clocks at Schalke ticked differently.

“The deal was off an hour and a half before the end of the transfer. You have to say that quite clearly. We then said as Schalke 04 that we were taking a certain risk and might push the transfer towards January. In the end, however, things turned out differently,” said Schalke’s sports director Rouven Schröder in the football talk “Sky90”.

According to the “Bild” newspaper, Schalke will also take over 1.5 million euros from Harit’s salary during this loan, which means that the transfer, if the purchase obligation begins, would only bring in 3.5 million euros. Schalke took the Moroccan from FC Nantes in 2017 for EUR 8 million – he reached his highest market value at the end of 2019 with EUR 30 million.
