Manchester Utd, who figure: 4-0 in Brighton. And now he risks the Europa League as well

Red Devils humiliated by the Potter team. Should West Ham win their last three games, United would slide into the Conference League

Embarrassing. Difficult to find other adjectives for Manchester Utd this season, which has failed all possible goals and is closing the Premier League in the worst way. In Brighton, on the 37th matchday of the championship, Rangnick’s team made an epochal fool, even losing 4-0. It is Caicedo who unlocks the game in the quarter of an hour, but the worst for the Red Devils comes in the second half: it begins with Cucurella’s doubling, then the score takes on very heavy proportions with the goals of Gross and Trossard, who close the poker already at play time. “What we did today is unworthy of the shirt we are wearing,” admitted a disconsolate Bruno Fernandes at the end of the race. The only consolation is in the summer on the bench will be Erik ten Hag, the coach called to revive the fortunes of a club far from its best days. Who knows if it will be enough to give the smile back to Cristiano Ronaldo, whom the evil ones already consider a foreign body in the future plans of the Dutch coach.

Europa League at risk

Now out of the race to qualify for the Champions League, United is now in danger of endangering their place in the next Europa League. The fact that the FA Cup final sees Liverpool and Chelsea face off – Reds already certain to return to the Champions League, Blues arithmetically among the top five in the league – means that sixth place in the Premier is worth the pass to the Europa League and seventh access to the Conference League. Manchester Utd are currently sixth, but have only one round left, the one with Crystal Palace, and a goal difference of +1. West Ham seventh have 6 points less, but three games still available, with an overall goal difference of +7: if they always win, the Hammers would close in front of United in any case, even if only for goal difference. In theory, Man Utd could even end up outside the whole of Europe, because at -8 there is Wolverhampton, who still have three games to play. Two of these, however, are against Liverpool and Manchester City, which could therefore “save” the European place of rivals in the red jersey, adding another insult to this disastrous season.
