Manchester United: Fred complains about Ralf Rangnick’s interim role

3rd most points since acquisition

Before the Champions League round of 16 against (Wednesday, 9 p.m.) midfielder Fred criticized the alignment on the Manchester United coaching bench. In an interview with “TNT Sports Brazil” (quoted via “The Guardians”) as “a little weird”.

“I know that in football it is important to get good results as quickly as possible, but it is also important to have a long-term plan. I think it’s a bit bad for us not to have one. Right now it’s all about short-term goals. We don’t know how it will be after the end of this season,” said Fred about the current situation of the “Red Devils”.

The plan with Rangnick as an interim coach has worked so far. Since the former RB boss took over the English record champions, only the top duo Manchester City (31 points from 12 games) and Liverpool FC (26) have collected more points in England than Man United, who with 25 points are clearly ahead of the other champions League contender did well. For comparison: After the 14th match day, the gap to the then leaders FC Chelsea was twelve points, currently the Blues are only four points ahead of Manchester in third place.

In the summer, Rangnick is scheduled to move into an advisory role, his contract runs until June 2024. Mauricio Pochettino from Paris Saint-Germain and Erik ten Hag from Ajax Amsterdam have been traded as successors on the coaching bench for months. Both are tied to their current clubs until 2023.
