After just over five months, sporting director Dan Ashworth and Manchester United parted ways again. As the Red Devils reported, the 53-year-old is giving up his role by mutual agreement. Ashworth came to Manchester in the summer after a lengthy leave of absence from his former club Newcastle United and reportedly cost between 2.4 million and 3.6 million euros.
Owner Jim Ratcliffe is said to have played a key role in the decision, because “The Athletic“ reports that Ashworth’s involvement with Man United did not go smoothly from the start. However, the portal did not go into more detail. The Englishman had overall responsibility for the professional department, recruiting and operational business. In the summer, the club spent 214.5 million euros on new signings – only two clubs in the world exceeded this figure. With 19 points from 15 games, they are only in 13th place in the Premier League.
