For Manchester City, the current season is anything but according to plan. The club plans the upheaval and also wants a DFB star. It should actually be there for a long time.

The previous course of the season for Manchester City has so far been a moderate catastrophe. In the league, the series master lags his own demands and at the same time leader FC Liverpool. In the League Cup they were eliminated against Tottenham, in the FA Cup you recently saved yourself with oh and noise against third division club Leyton Orient.

And in the Champions League? The sheikh club in the intermediate round meets Real Madrid. An early end in the premier class would be a very realistic scenario and would probably finally turn the current season into a debacle.

No wonder that City picked up a lot of money in winter to hire new players. The association of ex-Bayern coach Pep Guardiola gave over 200 million euros for Omar Marmoush (Frankfurt/75 million euros), Nico González (Porto/60 million), Abdukodir Khusanov (Lens/40 million), Vitor Reis (Palmeiras/37 Millions) and Juma Bah (Valladolid/ 6 million). But all the wishes of the star coach were not fulfilled. Because Guardiola also wanted to bring a DFB star to Manchester in winter.

According to the “Sport Bild”, Florian Wirtz should be at the top of the Catalan wish list. Guardiola would have loved to lure the playmaker of Doublesieger Bayer 04 Leverkusen in recent weeks. A change of the 21-year-old in winter was excluded.

However, the signs could change in a few months. Wirtz still has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027. The club apparently wants to extend it with it until 2028, guarantee that an exit clause from 2026 guarantees him for 125 million. However, if no signature is made under a new working paper, Leverkusen would probably like to hand it over in summer. Cost for the national player: 150 million euros. Leverkusen wants to avoid getting under pressure from Wirtz in the last two years of the contract, the “Sport Bild” writes.

The 150 million euros would be an impressive sum even for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. The previous record transfer of the Premier League club is that of Jack Grialish in the summer of 2021. City then transferred 117.5 million euros to Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, a transfer by Wirtz seems to be possible within the framework of what is possible. According to the report, Guardiola wants to replace Kevin de Bruyne with him. The 33-year-old Belgian contract expires in summer. Guardiola should want to re -establish his team – and apparently sees Florian Wirtz as a central pillar around which everything is being built around. The competition for this is great. FC Bayern in particular is considered a hot candidate to commit the offensive artist.
