Abdukodir Khusanov makes history with his move to England. He is the first Uzbek to sign with a Premier League club.
The signing of Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush is not yet perfect, but Manchester City has already spent a lot of money in France. England’s struggling champions announced on Monday the purchase of young Uzbek star Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens.
Lens is expected to collect around 40 million euros plus bonus payments for the 20-year-old central defender and thus make a huge profit. The French paid 450,000 euros to FK Energetik Minsk from Belarus for Khusanov in the summer of 2023. A year and a half and 24 games in Ligue 1 later, Lens are now collecting almost 90 times that amount.
“I am delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club I have enjoyed following for a long time. The team is made up of the best players in the world and I can’t wait to get to know them and play with them,” shared Khusanov in a video on platform X.
Khusanov would replace Loïs Openda as RC record sales with Boni. The Belgian moved to Leipzig in 2023 for 40 million. His move also makes him the first player from Uzbekistan to ever play in the Premier League.
