The weight of tradition rests on the fragile shoulders of Marcielle, a teenager born in one of the most remote corners of the Brazilian Amazonin a community that lives in symbiosis with the river and where women have been subjected to abuse within the home for generations. Marcelle’s fate seems sealed and Brennand (prize for director at the Venice Days of Authors) uses his talent as a documentary maker to give an account of the pain, the effort, that escaping the cycle of violence entails.

Marcelle’s choices are unconventional, just as those of the director are not who knows how to make a seemingly simple scene, the registration at the river “registry” to obtain an identity card, a key moment in the film. Salvation also comes from there. And from the money he saved (working in a brothel) to guarantee himself a hammock all to himself. Far from the deadly embrace of a master father.
