The commercial manager of the neighborhood club wants to reorient himself professionally. That’s why it’s over after just two and a half years.
The FC St Pauli has announced the separation from its managing director Wilken Engelbracht at the end of the season. The 52-year-old expressed to the executive committee his desire to reorient himself professionally. Engelbracht had been in office since November 2023.
After the departure, the association will further develop its management level and wants to anchor democratically legitimized committees more firmly in its operational business. Vice President Hanna Obersteller explained: “We are consciously strengthening the responsibility of the committees elected by the members.”
The previous tasks of the commercial management will therefore be repositioned. In the future, the relevant areas will report directly to the Executive Board. The aim is clearer responsibilities, shorter decision-making processes and stronger democratic legitimacy of decisions.
Under Engelbracht’s leadership, FC St. Pauli achieved sales of more than 100 million euros for the first time in the past financial year. His central projects included the implementation of the first cooperative in professional football, the continuous increase in sponsorship sales and the negotiation of the first collective agreement in professional football.
