The suspect is a 27-year-old Italian who is staying in Amsterdam. He was arrested two weeks ago.
The rape on King’s Day happened on the street and was filmed by several people. One of those videos appeared on social media that same day. Both the police, who already suspected that there was indeed a rape and mayor Halsema then called on the images not to share. Shortly thereafter, the victim made the police notification of the rape and the man was arrested.
Later other images of the incident appeared on Snapchat. According to Het Parool, it would be clear that there was no mutual permission. It was also shown on these images that several women cried against the man that he had to leave and asked bystanders to call the police.
