The 36-year-old Assenaar who fled the roof on January 29 from the McDonald’s in Assen must be treated. As a stick behind the door, the judge imposed a conditional prison sentence of three months.
The man would be arrested for domestic violence, earlier that day in Assen. He abused his partner by kicking, pushing and beating her. This happened before the eyes of their young children. He wanted to see the phone of the woman. He went through the ribbon when he didn’t get his way. Eventually he got the phone and dropped it. The device destroyed that.
The man left for the fast food restaurant. He told the judge on Friday that he had agreed there with his girlfriend’s sister. He would also be continued there. But he was shocked by the police dog, who had the agents with him. In a panic he climbed the roof, but got stuck. The suspicion was that the man was dangerous. That is why an arrest team was called, the public prosecutor outlined.
The incident at the McDonald’s attracted a lot of attention. The McDonald’s was evacuated and the man was eventually taken off the roof, he turned out not to wear a firearm.
The Assenaar was also on trial for Markplaatsplichting and the destroying of the restaurant’s roof. The public prosecutor demanded a conditional prison sentence of three months and a work sentence of 180 hours. He called the atmosphere that the file exuded worrying. “The suspect has difficulty with rejection, he cannot tolerate ‘no’,” the prosecutor said.
According to the public prosecutor, there are great worries that this can lead to femicide (murder of women). “Not that this is the case, but the worries are there,” he said. The judge spoke the Assenaar free of a number of scams. She thinks it is important that the man is recorded clinically as quickly as possible: “The punishment supervises”. For that reason she rejected the demanded community service.
The claim of more than 19,000 euros from the restaurant for destroying the roof was too complicated. It has been rejected.
