Times report
Arsenal have apparently stepped up their efforts to recruit central defender Lisandro Martínez. As the times reported, the “Gunners” have increased their offer for the professional, who is under contract with Ajax Amsterdam until 2025, in order to forestall competitor Manchester United. Arsenal are offering £34m (€39.5m) including bonus payments for Martínez, an initial offer of £22m (€25.5m) is said to have been rejected by the Dutch giants.

Arsenal, who are looking to bag their third €35m transfer alongside Porto’s Fábio Vieira, 22, and Man City’s forthcoming deal, Gabriel Jesus, 25, are getting closer to the price tag of Ajax, which has a transfer fee of £43m ( 50 million euros). Left-footed Martínez is also a focus at Man United, although the defender is currently not top of the list of priorities, only third. The “Red Devils”, writes the newspaper, have around 120 million pounds (139 million euros) available for new signings this summer – first of all, the central midfield should be strengthened.

Top candidate for this: Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. Negotiations about a transfer of the 25-year-old are in full swing, an agreement could be reached with a total package of 85 million euros, reported transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. In addition, Christian Eriksen (30) is set to move from Brentford FC to Old Trafford on a free transfer. It is also said that Ajax’ Antony is the designated target for the attack. However, the 22-year-old Brazilian (contract until 2025) costs 68.9 million pounds (80 million euros). Man United with its new coach Erik ten Hag – the 52-year-old came from Amsterdam – is ready to sell players in order to raise the necessary funds for the squad restructuring.
Ajax Amsterdam threatens to leave more top performers
The courtship of Arsenal and the “Red Devils” reveals that Ajax could face another loss of top performers this summer. After all, central defender Jurrien Timber (21) is also on United’s list. The 36-time champion of the Eredivisie has had to hand Ryan Gravenberch (20) and Noussair Mazraoui (24) to FC Bayern so far – it shouldn’t stop with these well-known departures.
