MAN triples the capacity of the truck plant in Kraków

“Around three quarters of all MAN trucks and truck cabs will be assembled here in the future,” said Production Director Michael Kobriger. At the main plant in Munich, space is needed for the mixed production of conventional and electric trucks. The capacity in Kraków will triple, and 1,500 additional jobs will be created there.

“An extremely flexible location with great variability is being created in Kraków, which will enable us to produce everything from light to heavy truck series on one line,” said CEO Alexander Vlaskamp. MAN is investing 130 million euros there and expanding the production area by a third. Production in the expanded area is scheduled to start in September 2022. Then 300 vehicles and driver’s cabs could roll off the assembly line in three shifts every day, said the commercial vehicle manufacturer, which belongs to the VW Group.

“Our changes in the production network make us significantly more competitive in these challenging times,” said Vlaskamp. MAN decided a year ago to cut 3,500 jobs in Germany, to relocate parts of the truck production from Munich to Kraków and to move the construction of light and medium-duty trucks from Steyr in Austria to Kraków. The plant in Steyr was sold to an investor. The aim is to improve the operating result by 1.7 billion euros and thus also have more money for investments in future technology.
