Someone has reported to the police who shot steel balls in Deurne. The perpetrator stated that he used the balls to chase pigeons out of his garden. He was not aware of the consequences of his actions, the police said. “This could have ended very differently,” a resident said recently.

Last month it was announced that there were several windows and skylights in the Atalanta, a street in Deurne, destroyed by shot balls. Probably they were shot from the ring road with a slingshot.

Whether the man who has reported, has been busy with a slingshot or another weapon was not announced. No one was injured, but residents were worried. The steel balls had a diameter of about an inch. A skylight was crushed at one of the shelling.

The suspicion that Ron Zijpveld, one of the inhabitants of the Atalanta, seemed to come out. “Maybe someone is bothered by pigeons and he or she has no idea where the balls end up, but it is dangerous. I hope it will stop because I am completely done with it,” he then told a reporter of Omroep Brabant.

Zijpveld also said that he and his family were very shocked when they were eating in the garden at the end of June. “We heard a big blow to the skylight: it was completely shattered. This could have ended very differently. It is waiting for people to fall,” he said. Fortunately, that did not happen as far as is known. Possibly pigeons have been hit.

Three years ago, a ball ended up on his skylight three years ago. “The window has sustained a big scratch. We first thought of a bad boy’s region, because it has been quiet for a year and a half. But now it has started again,” said Mark. As a precaution, he had given a daughter a bedroom on the other side of the house to prevent a ball from popping right through a bedroom window.

It is not known how long the man who confessed his method to the police tried to chase pigeons with those balls. He may count on substantial damage claims. Local residents have reported the destruction.
