Man knocked overboard IJsselmeer not yet found, police continue to search

Today, the police are searching with sonar equipment for the man who fell overboard yesterday afternoon on the IJsselmeer between Enkhuizen and Andijk.

The man fell overboard around 2.30 p.m. yesterday because the boom of the sailing yacht hit the person on board. The sailor disappeared under water and did not resurface. “We are looking for the person today with underwater equipment,” said a police spokesman.

Probably deceased

A spokesman for the KNRM says that they are no longer searching. “The search was stopped at 4 p.m. yesterday. The police will continue the search today.” According to him, a body is being searched for and the person on board the boat is most likely deceased.

It is still unclear what exactly happened on the sailing yacht. “There were two people on board,” said a Coast Guard spokesman. “The second person jumped after the drowning man and was taken out of the water by the emergency services.” The identity of the missing person has not yet been released.
