Man in cell after extreme speeding, friend loses car | Car

A 42-year-old man who drove more than 210 km / h in Denmark instead of the permitted 110 km / h, has to go to jail. He also lost his driver’s license for three years. The verdict also meant bad luck for the friend from whom the man had borrowed the car – a very expensive Porsche -: the car was confiscated and sold.

In the Netherlands, relatively high fines are handed out to speed offenders and anyone who drives more than 50 km/h too fast can lose their driver’s license just like that. But there are even stricter countries. In Norway and Switzerland, for example, income-related fines can be imposed that can easily amount to tens of thousands of euros for wealthy people.

100 km/h too fast

According to the German opinion magazine The Spiegel Denmark has also tightened the rules since last year. That these can be drastic for notorious speed drivers is shown by the case of a man who was on trial in a court in the town of Lyngby, about ten kilometers north of Copenhagen. There, a 42-year-old Dane who drove more than 100 kilometers per hour too fast on the highway has to go to jail and lose his driver’s license for three years.

Money from Porsche to the state treasury

The verdict also meant bad luck for the friend from whom the man had borrowed the Porsche 911 (model series 993): the car was confiscated and sold. The income goes to the state treasury. This is possible after stricter regulations for road pirates. In addition, the police can seize cars that have been driven particularly recklessly, for example at speeds above 200 km/h or by drivers with more than two promille alcohol in the blood. The rule applies whether or not the driver also owns the car.

Caught one day after the law came into force

The law entered into force on March 31, 2021. Exactly one day later, the man was caught speeding. Whether the former owner of the Porsche will visit his friend in the cell is not known.
