Man from Stadskanaal acquitted of driving into attacker after neighborhood party gets out of hand. Other people involved will receive community service

A resident of Stadskanaal has been acquitted by the court of driving his car into a man on the Koninginnelaan in 2019. An argument arose after a neighborhood party. His assailants have been punished.

According to the Groningen court, it is not easy to determine what exactly happened that evening in March 2019, after partygoers attacked the man (36) in his car. One of them later filed a report because he said he had been hit by a driver. According to the court, there was a hectic situation, which means that it cannot be determined with certainty what exactly happened. He is therefore acquitted.

It was preceded by a party in a pub with a garden, complete with a stripper and lots of booze and drugs. The couple who had just moved into the neighborhood got into words later in the evening. The man therefore wanted to go home and got the car, where he was attacked by men from Wedde (31) and Buinen (28), among others. Just like their target, they had to appear in court two weeks ago.

The Public Prosecution Service only brought the case to court after more than 4 years

Unlike the motorist, the other two men are convicted. For public violence they receive suspended community service of 80 hours, which they therefore do not have to carry out if they do not commit any new criminal offenses in the next two years. The court would have wanted to impose the sentences unconditionally, were it not for the fact that the Public Prosecution Service took more than 4 years to bring the case to trial. That is an exceeding of 2 years of the legal term.

However, the men must jointly pay about 11,000 euros in compensation to the man they attacked.
