A 38-year-old man from Hoogeveen has been sentenced to five years in prison for murder plans against his ex-girlfriend and threats. The sentence is equal to the demand of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
The suspect and the victim had a relationship in the past. Then everyone went their own way and now had a new relationship. There was occasional contact. That contact reached a low point in November.
The man was arrested that evening after he threw a knife through the letterbox at his ex-girlfriend’s home and shouted death threats. The woman’s then boyfriend was at home. The suspect shouted that he was going to cut the neck of the woman and daughter.
The man’s phone contained audio recordings of death threats. The man also appeared to have ordered knives, handcuffs and a jerry can via the internet. The judge did not believe the reason for the purchase (repairing a bicycle or a bad purchase).
The Hoogevener has a criminal record that includes a fatal stabbing. There is no point in imposing treatment, the man did not cooperate in a psychiatric examination.
The judge also imposed a contact ban on the suspect with the victim. He must also pay her compensation of 5,000 euros.
