Man from Groningen (21) steals a bag full of money in Rotterdam and throws banknotes out of the window on the A59 in Brabant while driving. ‘It rained money’

A 21-year-old man from Groningen was arrested on Monday evening on the A59 near Oosterhout, together with two others, because he threw stolen banknotes out of the window of his car while driving.

Earlier that day, De Stadjer had robbed a man of his bag full of money in Rotterdam. The police then gave chase that ended in Brabant. Near Oosterhout, the windows of the car were opened and many bills thrown out.

‘It rained money’

Several motorists then put their car aside to pick up the money. “Colleagues who arrived at the scene found chaos,” a police spokesperson told RTV Noord.

A motorist who followed the thieves tells RTV Rijnmond that ‘the money was raining’. “They poured the money right on our car. The police vans were just behind it. I didn’t stop to collect money because I didn’t want to cause any danger. I saw that a woman who was driving behind me did get out.”

The police confirm that reading. Several road users even got out to pick up the euros. Some of them have returned the money to the police, according to the spokesperson.

Police cannot say how much money is involved in total. “Not handing in the money is a criminal offence.”

Arrested

The suspects were unsuccessful in their escape attempt. The 21-year-old Groninger was arrested near Raamsdonkveer, as well as a 17-year-old boy from Den Bosch and a 26-year-old man with no fixed abode.
