Man drives into the Efteling entrance building under the influence of drugs

Visitors to Efteling were surprised on Boxing Day when a man suddenly drove his car into the entrance building. The driver, a 25-year-old Tilburg resident, drove close to the bushes and posts to the place where the tickets are checked. Normally no cars can get there at all. The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The unusual incident happened around 5 p.m. Instead of parking his car in the parking lot, the man drove up the sidewalk between the posts. His car was damaged in some places. On the social platform X, people share photos and videos. “I’ve experienced things, but parking your car at the entrance is the stupidest thing you can ever do,” writes a visitor.

“He probably just wanted to park as close to the entrance as possible.”

According to a spokesperson, the action shocked visitors and employees, but the man did not mean any harm. “It sounds very scary and it is also a crazy incident, but it has not been extremely exciting,” says spokesperson Laura van den Bos. “He didn’t drive fast, but slowly uphill. He probably just wanted to park as close to the entrance as possible.”

Efteling employees called the police, who took a saliva test from the man on the spot. This showed that the 25-year-old Tilburg citizen had used cocaine. Three ziplock bags containing cocaine were also found in his car.

“There was no malicious intent behind it.”

The man was not arrested, but he did receive a report. “We didn’t see him driving, but everything showed that he was confused. There were no malicious intentions behind it,” said a police spokesperson. “His driver’s license has been confiscated and he is required to take a course at the Central Bureau of Driving Skills (CBR). We also confiscated the ziplock bags in his car.”

It is also unclear to the police why the man drove to the entrance of the building. “It was busy at the time, so we didn’t have time to ask him about it.”
