A man has reported to the police after a serious assault in his hometown of Deurne. According to the police, at the end of October he assaulted a 22-year-old fellow villager at the station in such a way that the victim lost consciousness, among other things. The man who came forward stated to Omroep Brabant that he acted in self-defense.

He also never realized that the victim had been so seriously injured, he says. The suspect further says that he did not know that the police were looking for him. He responded to the message from Omroep Brabant, in which the police appealed to the suspect to come forward.

According to police, the suspect was part of a group of approximately five young people. On the night of October 26 to 27, they were on the train to Deurne, coming from Eindhoven. The victim and the wanted man had gotten into a fight on the train. Outside the train, at the station in Deurne, the argument escalated, the police reported.

The victim was hit so hard that he lost consciousness. The blows fractured his left eye socket and tore his upper lip in half. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The police published clear photos of the suspect earlier this Monday. He then reported to a police station in Maastricht, where he was at the time. The East Brabant police confirms this.

The man says that that night when he left the train in Deurne he was attacked by a group of four. He was then allegedly beaten, after which he dealt a number of blows himself.
