Man (88) critical after collision with tree

The accident happened around 2.40 pm in the Eikhoekstraat between the Vleterse district of Westvleteren and Poperinge. An elderly driver ran off the road, rammed into some poles and ended up crashing into a tree. The driver was trapped and was also unconscious when emergency services arrived. He was freed and taken to hospital in critical condition. The cause of the accident is not yet known. The man may have become unwell.
