A 79-year-old man from Roden has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexual abuse of two granddaughters, one year of which is suspended. The punishment is equal to the requirement of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
The man abused two granddaughters who are the same age for seven years from 2011. One of them started the abuse when she was five years old. The other grandchild was eight when she was touched and abused by her grandfather. One of the girls came to live with her grandparents in Roden on a regular basis, who looked after her.
The court took it seriously that the man abused that situation. The child was completely entrusted to him by her parents and left behind. He betrayed that trust.
The other child lived further away and came to Roden with her parents a few times a year. The grandfather did not waste a moment to sexually abuse her as well.
The man only had an eye for his own needs and did not pay attention to the damage he caused to the girls, the judge ruled. One of the victims suffers from a stress disorder.
The almost eighty-something has lost contact with his family due to this incident. This does not alter the fact, said the judge, that the case is so serious that a prison sentence must follow. De Roner was given a restraining order and must pay his victims a total of more than 50,000 euros.
