The incident happened around 3:30 am when the man left a parking lot in the center of Beveren. Instead of going backwards, he accidentally shifted into forward and accelerated. He drove over a greenbelt and a sidewalk, ended up on the roadway and then crashed into the front of a house across the street.
The residents were abruptly woken from their sleep and discovered that their home had suffered serious damage. The facade was dented, a radiator was torn loose inside and the wall on the street side showed heavy damage. Despite the damage, the family is able to stay in the home.
