Man (31) throws hammer at police officers – shot in the leg

With a shot in the leg, police officers in Ludwigsfelde disabled a man armed with a knife. The 31-year-old, who is said to have been in an exceptional psychological situation, was injured after the operation on Wednesday afternoon and was taken to the hospital, the police said.

Difficult mission for two Brandenburg police officers: On Wednesday afternoon they were called to a construction area in Ludwigsfelde because of a suspected suicide attempt.

The 31-year-old is said to have threatened construction workers with his knife and then attacked the officials.

According to initial findings, he is said to have initially thrown a hammer and other objects in the direction of the officers. The man did not respond to urgent appeals to surrender immediately, and the use of tear gas did not deter him. The police officers then fired several shots, with at least one shot injuring the 31-year-old in the leg.

The attacker was treated by paramedics and then taken to a hospital. None of the police officers were injured. The public prosecutor’s office in Potsdam and the criminal police have started the investigation.
