A major fire broke out in a business premises on Kruisakkers in Bergen op Zoom late on Wednesday evening. This concerns the company Toolstation, a wholesaler for building materials. The fire was reported just after eleven o’clock and just before midnight the fire brigade scaled up to a very large fire. There was a lot of smoke and the fire spread mainly to the back of the building.

As far as we know, no one was present in the building when the fire broke out.

Just after midnight, an NL Alert was sent in the vicinity of the company where the fire raged. This is mainly because of the smoke. Around one o’clock the smoke started to subside considerably. At that moment it became clear that the fire mainly affected the office and warehouse of the hardware store.

Advice to people who are bothered by the smoke was to close windows and doors and turn off mechanical ventilation.

In order to get sufficient extinguishing water to the Kruisakkers, the fire brigade installed a so-called Large Water Transport, with this system large quantities of extinguishing water can be transported over large distances.

The fire brigade also scaled up to ‘GRIP 1’ soon after midnight so that various emergency services can coordinate cooperation more easily.
